SCRAPING NOISE FROM INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
FINISH PANEL EXTENSION DURING COLUMN
TILT/TELESCOPING OPERATION - BUILT ON OR
BEFORE 9/1/2010

This article supersedes TSB 09-22-20 to update the vehicle model years and vehicle lines covered.
ISSUE
Some 2010-2011 MKT and 2009-2011 MKS vehicles built on or before 9/1/2010 may exhibit a scraping noise coming from the instrument cluster
finish panel extension and the upper steering column shroud during column tilt/telescoping operation.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the instrument cluster finish panel extension. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-12.
2. Check for the scraping noise by operating tilt/telescoping of the steering column in all directions.
a. If the scraping noise is gone, continue to Step 3.
b. If a noise is still present, stop with this procedure and continue with normal WSM Section 211-04.
3. Examine the upper steering column shroud for scratches.
a. If there are no scratches, continue to Step 5.
b. If there are scratches, continue to Step 4.
4. Remove and replace the upper steering column shroud. Refer to WSM, Section 211-04.
5. Replace the instrument cluster finish panel extension with a new part. Refer to WSM, Section 501-12.
