POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK AT THE RESERVOIR FILL CAP
FORD:
2010 Taurus, Flex

ISSUE
Some 2010 Taurus, MKS, Flex and MKT vehicles may exhibit a power steering fluid leak at the reservoir fill cap when operated in very cold
climates of ambient temperatures below 0 degrees Fahrenheit (-18 degrees Celsius). Air may enter the system through the pump supply tube-to-pump
joint immediately after a cold start causing the fluid to foam.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
The Service Procedure must be performed with the vehicle at room temperature.
1. With the vehicle in neutral, position it on a hoist. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 100-02.

2. Remove the 7 pin-type retainers and the RH inner fender splash shield. (Figure 1)
3. Clean the power steering pump and supply tube area thoroughly with Motorcraft(R) Metal Brake Parts Cleaner and allow the surface to dry.
Surface must be clean and dry in order for the sealant to bond. (Figure 2)
4. Apply a generous bead of Motorcraft(R) Ultra Silicone Sealant around the supply tube-to-pump housing connection. Make sure the sealant
covers the surface all the way around the tube to form a good air tight seal. (Figure 2)
5. Allow the sealant to dry according to the instructions on the tube.
6. Install the RH splash shield and the 7 pin-type retainers.
7. Top off the power steering fluid level.
